Originally established in Greenwich, Ohio, in 1921 as the Central Tractor Company, the business rebranded to Centaur Tractor Company in 1928, adopting the name from its Centaur series, which included the 6-10 sulky-style tractor. In 1934, Centaur sought a patent for their innovative "Klear View" design, which aimed to remove obstructions beneath the operator, allowing a clearer view of the ground under the tractor. Based on this design, the company began producing KV series tractors in 1935. However, by 1940, Centaur faced significant financial difficulties, leading to its sale to Le Roi, which had been supplying engines for Centaur tractors.
