John Deere 317

The John Deere 317 is a garden tractor produced from 1979 to 1983 as part of the 300 Series. It was built in Horicon, Wisconsin, USA. The tractor originally had lubrication problems with the Kohler engine, which gave it a poor reputation. Deere offered a retrofit kit to mount the Onan P218G engine and later Kohler provided an improved KT17 Series II engine. The 317 features a 17 hp Kohler 691cc 2-cylinder gasoline engine, hydrostatic transmission, and two-wheel drive with manual steering. It has an open operator station and differential mechanical shoe brakes. The tractor supports various attachments including mid-mount mower decks, snowblower, blade, and front-end loader.
