John Deere WA-17

The John Deere WA-17 is a four-wheel drive (4WD) tractor built by Wagner for John Deere from 1968 to 1970. It was manufactured in Portland, Oregon, USA. The tractor features a Cummins 14.0L 6-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine producing 280 hp (208.8 kW) with a claimed drawbar power of 220 hp (164.1 kW). It has a Fuller RTO-910 10-speed transmission with 10 forward and 2 reverse gears, and a 355.6mm dry disc clutch. The WA-17 has a wheelbase of 140 inches (355 cm), length of 257 inches (652 cm), width of 111 inches (281 cm), and height of 98 inches (248 cm) or 129 inches (327 cm) with cab. It weighs 28,280 lbs (12827 kg) and has 18 inches (45 cm) of ground clearance. The tractor has an open operator station with optional cab, heat, and air-conditioning. It uses a four-wheel drive system with planetary final drives, power steering, and pneumatic brakes. Fuel capacity is 120 gallons (454.2 L), hydraulic system capacity is 52 gallons (196.8 L), and steering fluid capacity is 160 quarts (151.4 L). The hydraulic system is open center type with 2 or 3 valves and pump flow of 15 gpm (56.8 lpm) with optional higher flows. Tires available include 28.5-26 and 23.1-30 sizes for both front and rear. Electrical system features negative ground, alternator charging, two 12-volt batteries with 205 AH capacity and group size 8D. Only 28 units were built, originally priced at $41,750 in 1969. Wagner was a tractor and logging machinery firm contracted by Deere to build large 4WD tractors during this period.
