Landini originated from the machine shop of Giovanni Landini, who had been manufacturing agricultural machinery since 1884 and had also produced steam and internal combustion engines before World War I. After Giovanni, his sons took over the business and created their first tractor in 1925, utilizing a hot-bulb diesel engine. Their tractors quickly gained popularity, making Landini the top Italian tractor manufacturer before World War II. Although production resumed after the war, the older diesel models had lost their appeal. To adapt, Landini began licensing Perkins engines in the 1950s and was acquired by Massey-Ferguson in 1959. In 1994, Landini was purchased by Argo SpA.
