During the 1970s, under Sperry's leadership, New Holland started producing lawn and garden tractors, eventually selling this product line to Ariens. After Ford sold a majority stake in its Ford-New Holland farm machinery division to FIAT, the New Holland brand began to replace Ford-branded Toros. Production of lawn and garden tractors continued until 2009, when New Holland decided to discontinue this line, although they continued to manufacture subcompact tractors and commercial front-mount mowers.
