Pioneer Tractor Company manufactured large gas tractors in Winona, Minnesota, from approximately 1920 until 1927. The company found success with its large tractors, which were primarily utilized for breaking prairie land and road construction. Notably, Pioneer was one of the early innovators in incorporating tractor cabs and enclosing the engine and transmission. However, the onset of the Great Depression and a shift toward smaller tractors negatively impacted the company. Despite undergoing reorganization in the early 1920s, Pioneer was unable to recover and ceased operations by 1927.
