Ransomes was established in 1789 when Robert Ransome built an ironworks. By the early 1900s, the company was transforming automobiles into farm tractors. In 1936, Ransomes launched the MG2, a small crawler designed for "market gardening." Post World War II, the company achieved significant success with its MG series crawlers. However, by the mid-1960s, Ransomes shifted its focus from crawlers to lawn care equipment. Eventually, the company was acquired by Jacobsen.
