In the early 1950s, the R.H. Sheppard Company produced a series of farm tractors powered by their proprietary diesel engine in Pennsylvania. Following World War II, Sheppard began manufacturing diesel engines for various applications. In 1949, they launched the Sheppard Diesel line of tractors designed specifically to use these engines. However, faced with competition from leading tractor manufacturers and the gradual adoption and expense associated with diesel engines, Sheppard halted tractor production in 1956 to concentrate on power steering equipment.
