The Steiger Tractor Company manufactured large four-wheel drive tractors in the Midwest United States. The company originated in 1957 when John Steiger constructed a tractor in his dairy barn. By 1969, he had produced 126 tractors on the farm, leading to the incorporation of Steiger and a move to a new factory in Fargo, North Dakota. The company experienced steady growth until the early 1980s, when a downturn in the farming economy led to its bankruptcy. In 1986, Steiger was acquired by Tenneco, the parent company of Case-International. Steiger produced tractors under both names until 1990, when the green Steiger tractors were discontinued. Currently, Case IH markets its large four-wheel drive and Quadtrack tractors under the Steiger brand.
