County Commercial Cars was founded in 1929 by brothers Ernest and Percy Tapp, who began transforming Ford trucks from 2x4 to 4x6 drive. In 1948, they completed their first tractor conversion, converting a Fordson Major to track drive. The company gained prominence in the 1960s and 70s for its four-wheel drive conversions of Ford tractors. However, County faced significant challenges in the 1980s, leading to its acquisition in 1983, followed by a sharp decline in production in 1987.
