The John Deere 1840 is a utility tractor built from 1979 to 1982 in Mannheim, Germany. It features a 3.9L 4-cylinder diesel engine producing 70 hp (52.2 kW) net power. The tractor offers multiple transmission options including 8-speed unsynchronized, 8-speed partially synchronized, and 16-speed two-speed power shift. It has two- or four-wheel drive with planetary final drives and mechanical rear differential lock. The 1840 has an open operator station with optional cab, wet disc brakes, power steering, and a closed center hydraulic system.
