In the 1940s, Marvin Steiner started manufacturing custom farm equipment in Ohio. The production of tailored lawn tractors commenced in the 1970s, leading to significant growth. In 1988, Steiner was acquired by Ransomes, and in 1992, the production operations were relocated to Dalton, Ohio. Ransomes, along with Steiner, was acquired by Textron in 1998 and integrated with the Jacobsen commercial grounds care division, resulting in a move of production to Johnson Creek, Wisconsin. In 2019, Doosan Bobcat acquired Steiner, but the brand was ultimately phased out in 2025.
