The Gravely Motor Plow Company was established in 1916 in Dunbar, West Virginia, where it produced a successful range of two-wheel walking tractors. The company later relocated to Clemmons, North Carolina, and in 1964, it expanded into the four-wheel garden tractor market. Gravely tractors featured a distinctive rear-engine design. In 1982, Ariens acquired Gravely and continues to own the brand today. Although Gravely's original designs were phased out around 2000 and the name was retired in 2002, it is still associated with a line of commercial lawn equipment.
