The International Harvester 786 is a row-crop tractor produced from 1980 to 1981 as part of the 86 Series. It was built in Rock Island, Illinois, USA, with a total production of 1,844 units. The tractor features a 5.9L 6-cylinder liquid-cooled diesel engine (International Harvester D-358) producing an estimated 89.1 hp. It has a 16-speed two-speed power shift Torque Amplifier transmission, two-wheel drive, and power assist steering. The 786 offers an open operator station with an optional cab. It has a fuel capacity of 50 gallons plus a 22-gallon auxiliary tank, and a hydraulic system capacity of 22.5 gallons. The tractor's dimensions include a 101-inch wheelbase, 165-inch length, and 102-inch width, with an operating weight of 11,590 lbs. The rear PTO is independent with 540/1000 RPM options. Electrical system includes a 12-volt negative ground with a 42-amp alternator (61 amps with cab) and two batteries.
Notes:The tractor must be stopped to shift the transmission (except the TA). The right-most console lever selects range (high, low, or reverse) and the left lever selects one of four gears. The Torque Amplifier (TA) is on the left side of the instrument panel and may be shifted without the clutch. Pulling back engages the TA, reducing the ground speed. Pushing the lever forward puts the transmission in direct drive (DD) mode.
