The John Deere 420 is a utility tractor produced from 1956 to 1958. It was built in Dubuque, Iowa, USA, and had many configurations including General-Purpose, Standard, Hi-Crop, Special, Utility, and Crawler versions. The tractor featured a 1.9L 2-cylinder engine available in gasoline, all-fuel, and LP gas variants. It had a 4-speed or 5-speed unsynchronized gear transmission, two-wheel drive, and an open operator station. The 420 was equipped with a rear type I hitch and a 540 RPM rear PTO, with live PTO optional on the 5-speed transmission. It weighed 3250 lbs and had various tire options for front and rear. The tractor had a positive ground electrical system with a 6-volt battery.
