Ingersoll was established in 1983 when Jack Ingersoll acquired the Case Outdoor Power Equipment Division, which had its origins in Colt garden tractors from the early 1960s. The company continued to manufacture garden tractors in Winneconne, Wisconsin, utilizing the hydraulic drive systems that Colt had developed. In 2005, Ingersoll filed for bankruptcy, and its assets were bought by Eastman Industries, which then relocated production to Portland, Maine. Ultimately, Ingersoll Outdoor ceased operations in 2016.
