AGCO was established when the U.S. management of the Deutz-Allis corporation purchased the North American division of the company and rebranded it as AGCO (Allis-Gleaner Company). Tractors are marketed under the AGCO Allis brand. Over the years, AGCO expanded its portfolio by acquiring White in 1991, Massey Ferguson in 1994, Fendt in 1997, Caterpillar's Challenger line in 2002, and Valtra (formerly known as Valmet) in 2002. In 2001, the AGCO White and AGCO Allis brands were replaced by the singular AGCO brand. However, in 2009, it was announced that the AGCO brand would be phased out, focusing instead on the Massey Ferguson and Challenger brands.
