In the early 1960s, International Harvester launched the Cub Cadet, entering the small tractor market. These heavy-duty garden tractors utilized many parts from the larger Cub tractor and were manufactured in the same facility in Louisville. In 1981, International Harvester's Lawn Products Group was sold to MTD, which became known as the Cub Cadet Corporation (CCC), and production was relocated to a new factory in Brownsville, Tennessee. Although initially operating independently, Cub Cadets gradually began sharing more components with other MTD brands and are now fully integrated into the MTD lineup. The Brownsville facility was closed in 2009.
